A Passion for the Science of Sight

Dr. Ashlin Naquin discovered her calling for optometry while shadowing doctors across different healthcare fields — fascinated by how findings at the back of the eye can connect to conditions throughout the entire body, from diabetes and high blood pressure to kidney disease and autoimmune disorders.

A licensed therapeutic optometrist from Lafayette, Louisiana, Dr. Naquin earned her Doctor of Optometry degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Optometry, completing clinical rotations at The Callahan Eye Institute in Birmingham, AL and Storm Eye Clinic at the Medical University of South Carolina. She offers comprehensive eye care, contact lens fittings, dry eye management, and the diagnosis and management of diabetic eye disease, glaucoma, macular degeneration, cataracts, and red eyes.

Dr. Naquin graduated from the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Optometry with her Doctor of Optometry degree. She completed clinical rotations at The Callahan Eye Institute in Birmingham, AL and Storm Eye Clinic at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, South Carolina.

Dr. Naquin is a licensed therapeutic optometrist with experience in comprehensive eye care, contact lens fittings, and dry eye management, as well as the diagnosis and management of diabetic eye disease, glaucoma, macular degeneration, cataracts, and red eyes.

Dr. Naquin is an active member of the American Optometric Association and Texas Optometric Association. She was also awarded the Broadcaster Award during her time at optometry school, recognizing her exceptional ability to communicate transparently and build rapport with patients.

Community Involvement

Dr. Naquin is committed to giving back beyond the clinic walls, volunteering regularly at her local church in the Dallas area. While in optometry school, she traveled to Belize, where she provided eye care services to underserved populations abroad.

Why I chose optometry

What inspired you to become an eye doctor?

“I knew I wanted to go into healthcare, but nothing clicked until I spent time shadowing an optometrist working alongside an ophthalmologist. I was fascinated by how much the eyes can reveal about the rest of the body. You can detect signs of diabetes, high blood pressure, kidney disease, even autoimmune conditions, all from looking at the back of the eye. That connection drew me in immediately. And I loved the idea of building real, lasting relationships with patients and their families — that kind of continuity is something I really treasure.”

What do you love most about your job?

“Honestly, my patients. I get to see the same families year after year, watch kids grow up, and really get to know the people I care for on a personal level. Those relationships are what make me excited to come to work every day.”

Outside of work, Dr. Naquin cherishes time with her family — the youngest of four sisters, she stays close with her siblings and their families back home in Louisiana. In her adopted city of Dallas, she has fully embraced the local culture, exploring the vibrant food scene, cooking at home, and staying active through pickleball, pilates, and Orangetheory. She also finds fulfillment in volunteering at her local church, keeping her grounded in the community she is proud to now call home.
